Kayla Kirk is an actor, writer, and director. Best known for her comedic work, Kayla’s clownery earned her the nickname “Funny Girl” in a local magazine write-up at age 14. She channeled her dry wit into a stand-up comedy set which won her first place in the high school talent show, and Kayla has performed as an improv, stand-up, and sketch comedian ever since.
Kayla’s roots are in musical theatre, and she remains
passionate about blending storytelling and music. Favorite credits include Natalie in Brown University’s 2018 production of Next to Normal and Logainne “Schwartzy” in Brown U. / Gilbert & Sullivan’s The 25th Annual… Spelling Bee. A testament to her training in Voice and Shakespeare, Kayla has tackled roles like Viola in Twelfth Night and has done voiceover work for video games, narrative podcasts, and celebrity impressions for machine learning companies.
As a writer, Kayla got her start in high school, penning a monthly humor column in a local NJ magazine. Her first full length play, Turtle on the Fridge, debuted in Glen Rock, NJ (2016), and her writing has since been featured during her time as a member of Skorts Sketch Comedy, Brown University’s sketch group for women and people of other marginalized genders, and The Rib of Brown, a digital humor publication.
As a director, Kayla has been lauded for her 2017 stage production of 5 Lesbians Eating a Quiche, as well as for her work as executive director of Skorts Sketch Comedy. She is the recipient of the New Players Company Directing Award and the Brown University T. Carpenter Prize for Elocution.
